Just for the record, I got up at 5am for this trip to Volcano!
The Volcano is not high and we were able to climb the 300 meters quickly, this is at the top of the crater. You can see the sulphur vapours
You can see the base of the crater in this picture
Once we got the trick of standing behind (up wind of) the sulphur vapour we could get very close to the crystals on the crater
The vapour was extremely hot
Views from the top of the crater
More sulphur crystals
...and more
.......and more
Yep, thats me on the side of the crater absorbed by the sulphur emmissions!!!
The Island behind Vulcano is Lipari
Views from the highest point of the volcano towards Sicily
An interesting experience...a mud bath in bubbling sulphurous vapours. we smell like matches even today after much showering!
And here's the mud man!
This is how we got around the island...15km long
View of Lipari from Vulcano
This is the transport to the island. They are hydrofoils.
On the way back to Sicily, we are just coming back into the port of Milazzo
